Bleeding Gums

Do you notice blood in your mouth after brushing your teeth? It is generally an indication that your gums are inflamed or unhealthy. Sore, swollen or bleeding gums can lead to discomfort, bad breath and even social anxiety. As a result, some patients are tempted to brush even less in order to avoid the symptoms, however this only leads to further worsening of the problem.

Treatment for bleeding gums can vary, but it’s most likely that a professional clean with one of our excellent hygienists will resolve most symptoms. It is important, though, to remember to brush and floss daily to minimise plaque build-up and your risk of gum diseases.

Help, why are my gums bleeding?

Most commonly, bleeding gums are a sign of gingivitis, a mild form of gum disease. Gingivitis is caused by a build-up of plaque along your gum line which can make your gums irritated, red and swollen. If untreated, this plaque build-up could progress to a hard calculus deposit, which is particularly bad for your gums, and because your gums are so aggravated, brushing results in bleeding. Remember to brush and floss daily to minimise plaque build-up and your risk of gum diseases.
